NFL insider believes Eagles coordinator will be a head coaching candidate this division rival

The Dallas Cowboys have not made a decision about the future of head coach Mike McCarthy but believe that, if he is fired, one of the Eagles’ coordinators who used to work with him could be interviewed for the job.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler wrote Wednesday that he believes Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore will be a head coaching candidate for multiple teams looking to fill vacancies, including the Cowboys if their position becomes available.
“Moore has certainly helped himself while coaching the Eagles’ offense this season,” Fowler said. “I could see him getting a look in Dallas and other places. The carousel pool is full of offensive candidates, though there’s room for a sleeper, such as Tampa Bay’s Liam Coen or Arizona’s Drew Petzing, to make an impression. We saw that last year with Dave Canales surging late to land the Carolina job.”
The Eagles currently have the fourth-ranked offense in the league, averaging 377.7 yards per game. The team also has the league’s best rushing offense (188.9 yards per game) but ranks 28th in passing (188.8 yards per game). In the five seasons before Moore joined the Eagles, the offenses he led twice finished as the NFL’s best (2019 and 2021), averaging a league-high 31.2 points per game in 2021. Last season with the Chargers, their offense averaged 329.4 yards per game, placing 18th in the league.

McCarthy is in the final year of his contract. The Cowboys have struggled for much of the season and, despite winning their last two games, are 5-7 — a disappointing record for a team expected to at least make the playoffs.
Moore has previously interviewed for head coaching jobs, including the Eagles’ role after the team fired Doug Pederson following the 2020 season. The Eagles eventually hired Nick Sirianni. Moore also interviewed last season with the Chargers and the Carolina Panthers, the team the Eagles will face Sunday afternoon.
“Anytime you get an interview with an ownership and an organization, you get to grow a lot as a experience, you get to grow your experience around the NFL and they are awesome experiences each and every time you get to do those,” Moore said during a media availability Tuesday. “You get to connect with great people, people you continue to have relationships with in some capacity. It will be fun to see some of those.”
